The Trade of Lamar Jackson: What are the Ravens really losing?

I’m sure by now you have heard that Lamar Jackson asked to be traded on March 2.  When I first heard the news today, I felt like someone who learned their partner had broken up with them weeks before and never told them.  But then I realized something…mainly that Lamar, as talented and brilliant as he can be, is also a narcissist and a locker room distraction.   Throughout the past season, Jackson did all he could to distract the Ravens, ghosting them at times, including the Wild Card playoff game in which he did not fly with the team to Cincinnati.  The season-ending injuries he suffered each of the last couple of years were both initially reported as minor injury but supposedly worsened over time.  My question is, was Lamar exaggerating his injuries because has frustrated with the Ravens?  Just a thought. Furthermore, Jackson’s stats have fallen from elite in his 2019 MVP season to merely good-to-very-good in the three seasons since.  His deep passin...

80 for Brady review

Image
As Tom Brady rides off into the sunset again (hopefully for good this time), he has blessed/tormented us all with his magnificent tribute to himself, the newly-released movie 80 For Brady.   This film is so atrocious, you’ll hope Brady sticks to his word to retire.  The movie will most certainly NOT take its place in the pantheon of classic sports flicks alongside Rocky, Hoosiers, and Field of Dreams.   The film is centered around four elderly women played by iconic actresses Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field, who live in Boston and are diehard Patriots fans. And they LOVE Tom Brady.  My god are they in love with him. “He’s so cute!”  One of them writes erotica involving Rob Gronkowski titled “Between a Gronk and a Hard Place.”  Vomitous trash. As the film begins, the four old ladies are watching Brady and the Patriots play the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.  There is once noticeable problem:  The game (in real life) t...

Sports, Life, and Disappointment

Image
It seemed as if it was meant to be. On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills, who had been Super Bowl favorites since the start of training camp, took the field for a divisional playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals, who were coming off a surprising Super Bowl appearance from the year before. The Bills, the team infamous for losing four consecutive Super Bowls, were on the cusp of winning their first Super Bowl, and dedicating it to fallen teammate Damar Hamlin, still recovering from his shocking cardiac arrest suffered on the field in Cincinnati three weeks earlier.  On top of that, it was snowing in Buffalo, a familiar sight for a Bills playoff game.  What could wrong for the Bills? Everything. Quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills offense looked lifeless, while the defense could not stop or even slow Joe Burrow and the Bengals.  Cincinnati quickly went up 14-0 and never looked back, winning 27-10.  The Bills run of destiny was over too soon.  Buffalo didn’t play nea...

The Airing of Sports Grievances

Image
Happy Festivus, everybody!  It is time to air some grievances relating to sports in the year 2022! - Tom Brady, why the hell did you con us all into thinking you were retired, and then unretired, leading to a drop-off in production? - To the Denver Broncos, for trading the farm for Russell Wilson, only to see him rot away at the right hand of incompetent coach Nathaniel Hackett? - Cleveland Browns, why did you trade for Deshaun Watson?  Nothing more needs to be said.  Quite an “adult” you have at QB. - To the Indianapolis Colts, why did you waste a 33-0 lead?  Why did you make Jeff Saturday head coach? - Rob Manfred, why do you need to keep ruining baseball?  Pitch clocks? Larger bases? No shifting?  What is this, arena baseball?  You make Bud Selig look like a great commissioner! - To the Los Angeles Dodgers, why did you have to choke in the playoffs once again after winning 111 games? - Dan Snyder, why are you still an NFL owner? - Zach Wilson,...

Birth of a Hero

The music generates a feeling of limitless strength, unabashed inspiration.  The tense strings, pounding of the drums, and bold confident ambience conjure up the image from a pivotal scene in a movie, where the hero is making his charge, or the football coach is giving an impassioned speech at halftime of the big game.  The song gives the listener a slap on the back and tells them, “Go get ‘em.”  That’s what an inspiring article of music is supposed to do.
